Joe Hart might become #1 Goalkeeper

Fabio Capello is debating whether not to place Joe Hart as the #1 goalkeeper for the team. It is a difficult decision because he does not have a games worth of experience in international soccer. Yesterday the team back home to England to play Mexico in an unofficial match. Their high altitude training was interrupted so that they could play a professional team and arrange their players to their advantage. Last night Joe Hart won his second cap in their match against Mexico at Wembly. This has increased his chances in being installed as first goalkeeper, but he really has to exceed expectations to replace David James or Robert Green, who have both had much more play time in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. "He did play in Trinidad and Tobago but the pressure at Wembley is really big. Hart has played a lot of games this season and has improved a lot. It is very equal between the keepers and they are all starting in the same position." says Fabio Capello.
The decision will definitely be a difficult one, and it will likely determine their placement in the Cup. He will make his decision shortly before he announces his line-up against Japan in Graz on May 30. “I prefer to decide at the last minute,” Capello says, because that way he gets as much time to think about it as possible, "It is really dangerous to decide too early.” Capello takes his team to play practice match against other teams to understand how their players work, so he can develop new strategies and styles. A new match could totally change his choice on who is to play.

  1. Great Article. It was very very factual. Loved it! He deserves to be goalkeeper for as hard as he worked. It is a great decision to wait to make a final decision. Keep up the good work Joe Hart! I'm rooting for you!

  2. It might not be the smartest thing to do if England is serious about winning the World Cup. I think that Capello should just use his more experienced goalkeepers, but who knows, Joe Hart may just surprise us all when we least expect it. He is younger which makes him a bit more fresh than the other two who are close to the peak of their lives.

  3. Good article, but i think that like mario said, if England is serious about winning the cup, that the head coach should stick to some more experienced goalies. It seems as though that joe has some serious potential, and if he keeps performing as he did at the scrimmage, then there is no doubt that he will be the number 1 goalie for next years cup.

  4. I think the best possible choice for Capello would be to play his more experienced goalies, rather then risk losing the World Cup. Joe Hart may be a good goalie but his lack of game time could really hurt the team if they make finals durring the Cup.
